The animation story

Last night I was watching Hanuman, an animated film on the mythological history of Hanuman. I was just grappling to know how animation industry in India is been perceived and how it has evolved over the time. While browsing on the internet I just came across a very interesting article by one of the leading newspapers of the country where they had discussed about how animation industry has achieved its due share in the world and that the Hollywood too is looking forward to India for some big projects.

There was a time when Hollywood was skeptical about the Indian talent in animation and was hesitant to outsource work to Indian companies. However, with the immense talent we Indians have, we have attracted Hollywood to the domestic field. Where there is still a perception among the people that the animation industry in India is evolving, Crest Animation Studio has shed all the inhibitions of the people who believe that animation industry is better abroad.

The first Indian company to enter the foreign shores has made Alpha and Omega, a 3D animated movie about two young wolves at opposite ends of their pack’s social order, for the abroad audiences. The film is considered for the Oscars. Though it is yet to release in India the animated film has created a ruckus among the international audiences.

It comes as a pleasant surprise for our Indian counterparts where people still think that the animation industry still have to learn lot of new techniques to bridge the foreign gap. It is true that most of the animated movies were made of mythological subject, yet the time is not far when the Indian animation industry will bring out some interesting subjects unlike Hollywood to work on.

Westerners believe that Indian animation industry has so far not shown their creative sensibilities and had not gone beyond the mythological arena yet I believe that showing the epics or rather say our super heroes to our children is also important.

Realizing the importance of our culture, Graphic India has also launched an animated Mahabharta Series on You Tube. The web series has been created by Batman writer, Grant Morrison. The first episode of the series is available on nowhttp://youtu.be/WM27xmTN-uwand. The subsequent episodes will be launched exclusively on YouTube in weekly installments throughout the year.
