Further establishing its supremacy in the smartphone world, Apple Inc has unveiled its new flagship iPhone 5s and the less expensive iPhone 5c, formal launch of these models will happen on 20th September 2013.
The iPhone 5s, which Apple describes as “the most forward-thinking smartphone in the world” is set to create a new gold standard in the smartphone space. It will come with features and an all new A7 chip, which makes it the first smartphone with 64-bit desktop-class architecture.
The 64-bit technology is purportedly up to two times as fast as previous CPUs and also handles graphics up to twice as fast, making it capable of delivering visual effects, previously only possible on Macs, PCs and gaming consoles.
The latest smartphone from Apple also comes with the new iOS 7, which Apple engineered to maximize the performance of the A7 chip. The iPhone 5s includes a new M7 motion coprocessor that continuously measures motion data, even when the device is asleep, and saves battery life for a pedometer or other fitness apps. Apple has already worked with Nike to develop a body rhythm tracking app that keeps track of the user’s strides and movements throughout the day.
But the most talked about new feature of the 5S is Touch ID, a security feature that uses the phone owner’s fingerprint to lock and unlock the device instead of the traditional PIN. This new feature had been anticipated since Apple acquired sensor technology developer AuthenTec Inc. last year. Touch ID reads the fingerprint at a detailed level, scanning sub-epidermal skin layers.
While using the smartphone, the Touch ID sensor is built into the home button and is only activated when needed to preserve battery life, can also be used to make iTunes, App Store or iBooks purchases without entering a passcode. All fingerprint information is encrypted and stored on the Secure Enclave on the phone’s A7 chip.
Talking about the camera features, the all-new 8-megapixel iSight camera on the iPhone 5s features a larger f/2.2 aperture and a 15 percent larger active sensor area with 1.5 micron pixels for better sensitivity and low-light performance.
Additionally, a new Burst Mode can take up to 10 frames of photos per second, while Slo Mo can shoot HD video at 120 frames per second. The phone also features a new FaceTime HD camera and audio-only FaceTime calls. All this is surely set to take Apple and its cult status even further ahead towards profitability.
