Battlefield SocialMedia - Facebook Vs TwitterThe buzz word social media today is the lifeline of many people be it a professional, homemaker, children or older all of them are hooked on to internet to get connected to the world and of course their loved ones. And the two sites that are more prominent and see number of traffic are Twitter and the Facebook where you find the whole world chatting and sharing or breaking news after every second.

Gone are the days when we were stick to orkut or gmail, the social media is much beyond that. Today it’s the era of Twitter and facebook users who spends hours either chatting or playing or breaking or reading news. Twitter was created in 2006 as a platform to share, succinct messages with a group of friends. Facebook got its start in a Harvard dorm room in 2004 aimed to let people create personal profiles to share photos and messages with a wide network of friends.

But of late the two social media giants have created their own place in everyone’s PC. Where Twitter served the purpose of delivering real time news, entertainment and information networks, tapping into the ideas and preoccupations of people who live online, Facebook on the other hand primarily functions as the yellow pages of the internet.

Everybody is on the two giants today. Twitter has more than 200 million monthly active users and Facebook has more than a billion. Facebook’s most common use is to keep people informed of what’s happening in their circle. It’s also known as scrapbooking site where people archive important moments of their lives. Twitter focuses on speeding things up, often becoming a source in and of itself.

Where facebook provides a clean layout, Twitter has become the social networking site of choice for people of wanting to remove the glitz and glamour to focus on the information. Although Twitter doesn’t provide picture and video solutions to compete for social media traffic, they are collapsed within the timeline. The site is completely a pop-up book giving sufficient access to the information you want.

The tide has changed today until Twitter came, Facebook was dominating the social media, however, with Twitter’s introduction for the social media savvy people, the battle between the Facebook and Twitter for dominance of the social media world started.
