Huawei to focus on NVF for future oriented networks

Huawei, information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, announced that Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), a key area within Huawei’s SoftCOM strategy, will be the focus of its R&D and innovation efforts for the next five years. This announcement demonstrates the company’s commitment to realizing the industry’s transformation towards future-oriented networks.

The rise of cloud computing has catalyzed the development and adoption of NFV around the globe. With a comprehensive portfolio of end-to-end NFV virtualization solutions for carriers in the fields of hardware, operating system, software, and integration services, Huawei offers support to various hardware platforms. With its FusionSphere Cloud OS platform, Huawei enables the realization of different network functionalities with different software functions and virtualization solutions, such as virtualized IMS and virtualized EPC, that allow for dynamic allocation and scheduling of network resources, improvements to resource utilization, network scalability, and agility of service deployment.

Deployed in over 40 countries and regions around the world, Huawei’s FusionSphere Cloud OS serves as the foundation for a wide range of hardware platforms and telecom applications targeting different network functions that help carriers achieve smooth evolution towards future-oriented, virtualized networks. Featuring cost-effective virtualization, secure and reliable real-time services, as well as easy and efficient operations, the FusionSphere Cloud OS offers high-standard performance and system stability to suit the rigorous demands of telecom operator domains. Additionally, Huawei’s FusionSphere Cloud OS also enables the decoupling of hardware and software, resources sharing, dynamic resource scheduling, and reduction in operator costs, as well as reduced time-to-market for new services.

Huawei showcased the core capabilities of its industry-leading vIMS and vEPC solutions, realizing virtualization functions such as scaling in, scaling out and healing. Guided by a customer-centric approach for innovation, Huawei has been collaborating with a number of top-tier European carriers to conduct joint Proof-of-Concept (PoC) tests of NFV networks. The tests have yielded positive results and feedback that reflect the exceptional performance of Huawei’s virtualization solutions.

“Virtualization will play a vital role in shaping the future network architecture and Huawei is committed to helping carriers transform their telecom networks to embrace this important evolution,” says Dr. Sanqi Li, Chief Technology Officer of Huawei’s Carrier Network Business Group. “With our broad range of NFV offerings, we will continue to work closely with major telecom operators around the world to drive the development of the future-oriented industry together.”

SoftCOM is a future-oriented end-to-end ICT network architecture based on technologies and concepts including cloud computing, NFV, Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and network openness. Introduced in 2012 against the backdrop of an upsurge in cloud technologies and the explosive growth of data, Huawei’s SoftCOM solutions help carriers around the world navigate the challenges in improving efficiency, reducing costs, and creating new business opportunities in the era of cloud, virtualization and ICT convergence.
