As cloud computing is one such technology that is engulfing many more segments and areas within the technology and even non technology domains, cloud computing is now all set to drive in mobile gaming as well.
There is an emergence of software driven gaming that is completely cloud based and will enable customers to play graphically engaging games on Apple’s iPhone and iPad, a number of high end smartphones and other devices based on Google’s Android software. This is cloud gaming now and everybody is invited here.
It is important to note that in the past, these games have been far beyond the computing power of such devices and in basic terminology, gaming required horsepower of a PC or a console. Not anymore as cloud is reducing the computing limits needed for enabling such technology.
Owing to this trend towards the cloud, gaming companies are betting big on the cloud model as well and writing the script of a major shift towards cloud gaming.
On the other hand, towards the industry side, this trend towards cloud is also set to create big implications for the major stakeholders in the video game business, primarily speaking about the console makers Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo.
Whether it is a tablet or a smartphones, iPad or phablets, one thing is certain, as cloud moves from one quarter of tech implementation to another, it is proving to be a great source for tech innovation and at the same time providing great value for the users.
Amazon Web Services, the biggest public cloud out there, is now letting all developers tap its vast infrastructure to stream applications and games and render graphics, enabling more computationally intensive applications to run fast on end users’ devices. This isn’t just a standard service for setting up individual virtual machines or small slices of a physical server. Lots of Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) providers already offer that — Google, Microsoft, Rackspace, and so on.
Moving forward, everything from games to streaming movie service are considered cloud applications and are increasingly being made available for the users over cloud infrastructure. And hence, gaming companies are set to introduce a service that let people run a full Windows desktop on iPads and other mobile devices. This will make further room for such gaming for the end users.
