itVARnews interacted with Yoshiji Matsui, MD, Brother International India to gain insights about the company’s focus areas this fiscal in the country. Below are the excerpts from the interaction-:
What are the trends shaping up in the India’s printer market?
In the second half of last year there was a decline in the economy resulting in a slowdown in the demand of the printer products in the country. However there has been a steady growth in the monochrome laser product portfolio since 2013.
Please share your business model for VARs and Sis In India?
As far as VARs and Sis are concerned, we focus more on compact products like our DCP-7065DN which is a monolaser printer with a reasonable price and is also a scanning and copy machine.
What will be your Key focus areas this fiscal in India?
Key focus areas this fiscal will be our mono laser printers for different verticals with a special focus on mid range products. The market share of our monolaser printers in India is around 5-6 percent of the total market and we will try to double it by 2015.
What are the major challenges in India according to you?
The primary challenge at present is the devaluation of the Indian rupee against the US dollar as well as a downfall in the economy of the country in recent times. But we hope that it will recover since a stable government has now been formed at the centre.
What are your offerings in the cloud and mobility space?
Cloud may serve a benefit on the storage front but we don’t eye any major business opportunity in it. We believe that mobile printing via a smart phone has a long way to go in future so that is why we offer mobile printing and scanning via wi-fi direct for Android and iOS users.
Do you have solutions in enterprise mobility space?
Yes for Android and iOS users.
Throw some light on your OmniJoin solution launched last year?
Since our inception we focused on SMBs globally mainly on the hardware front. However we can’t rely entirely on the hardware business and hence we came up with our OmniJoin solution which is a web based software for video conferencing.
What are your recent launches along with their target verticals?
We have introduced two new printer models-the first one is a laser printer at affordable price while the other one is an inkjet printer which incurs a cost of just 20 paise per page. We will target the SMBs for our laser printer while the inkjet will be for general consumers.
