Not many of us are aware of the Near Field Communication NFC technology as at present it only comes with Premium Smart devices in the country and is still limited to a miniscule portion of tech junkies.
The technology establishes a connection between two similarly enabled devices over a radio frequency, but only within a close range of approximately 4 centimetres. The not so known technology however packs in numerous benefits which are being reaped in other parts of the world
There are projects commencing around the world revolving around using NFC for enabling public transportation and for contactless payment systems via just tapping your smart device with an NFC enabled tag
The technology though in its nascent stage in India has started to gain traction. A field trial by Citibank called Citi Tap and Pay with Nokia 6212 phone in Bangalore sometime back is a classic example of the enormous opportunities the technology can bring along with it as the ecosystem in the country upgrades
The biggest benefit of NFC lies in its ability to conduct secure transactions as it operated in a very limited range and is already being used in various countries for shopping transactions.
‘’Though NFC is getting popular in segments like e-commerce, social networking and sharing data between devices globally it is still in the stage of infancy in India,’’ says an Industry expert.
Along with the lack of an NFC compatible infrastructure issues like non compatibility of two NFC devices manufactured by two different vendors is further hindering its growth in the country.
The technology like always though be lagging behind in the country as compared to other parts of the world, its benefits are sure to make it rank in the next big technologies in India in near future.
