NECTA Goes Aggressive with Major Amendments

NECTA (North East Computer Traders Association) has recently conducted an AGM to discuss some important issues with the members of the association while also making some necessary amendments in the existing constitution. The AGM was held to work on uplift of the partners’ business in the state and was to amend changes in the association’s constitution.

Avinash Jalan, General Secretary, NECTA informs, “The agenda for this year AGM was to look after the work we did in last year and to make some amendment in the association’s constitution for the welfare of the members. Our constitution was weak so we had to reformulate the entire constitution. We made the draft copy and send it to the executive committee for the approval.”

Under the earlier constitution only IT partners could become the members of the association. However, in the new constitution any professional who is dealing in IT field or telecom field can be a member of the association. They can partner with the association on the single platform. The association has also included security and surveillance into IT domain and the partners from this area can now become member of NECTA.

Talking about the other amendments in new constitution, Jalan further informs, “Under the new constitution people who want to become the member of NECTA should have their head office in North East and other companies who have their branch offices are not eligible to become the member of NECTA. However, in a special case if the AGM passes the membership form then only that particular company can become the member of the association”.

The other highlight of the new constitution:

Earlier all the activities of the association was conducted in Guwahati only but after the amendments the association will start chapter in different cities and members will be nominated to look after the success of that particular chapter. If required the association will provide all support to make the event successful for the chapter. This way strong bonding will prevail among the members and will have better understanding and interaction among them.

The association is also very active in handling the issues of the state to help the IT community generate good ROI. The association is focusing on fair trade practice in the state and is trying to create a healthy environment in the market.  “We have observed that vendor unethically takes our employees on their pay role. To control this we have issued notice and asked vendors to take an NOC from the ex-employer before taking any employee on board with them.”

He further informs, “Vendors after a period of four months or maximum a year appoints new RD without informing or giving notice to the existing one. Also, they tend to increase RDs target to an extent that it becomes next to impossible for them to achieve. To safeguard RDs interest we have asked vendors to give a 45 day grace period to any RD before discontinuing his services. This way the business of the RD will not get affected.”

Online has also been a big issue in the state, direct billing done by vendors are also disturbing the business cycle in the region. Jalan shares, “Most of the time we do not come to know who the actual owner of the company is, so if anything happens we do not know whom to contact. We exchange credit with so many vendors but we are always in a jiffy of losing the business. To help members we have put an advisory to association in which we have proposed that a seller should give trade copy to the buyer, 3 post dated cheques, which will be a safer way to do business. In the advisory we have also demanded maximum 30 days credit and after due date interest rate will be levied at the rate of 24%.”

Besides the association is also working on services issue which has grappled the state. The association has observed that vendors claim that they are selling 1000 units of commercial laptops in the region but it is surprising to see that they do not have even a single service center in the state. “We have to request the sales person for service support. The vendors don’t even provide the contact details of the sales person. To help customers and partners we are preparing a service data of North East and will send the link to the partners. We will filter this data and ask vendors to resolve the issue of service immediately,” informs Jalan.

The association is also working on to bring a service guide book which will have toll free numbers, email id’s, online chat details, local contact details of the vendors at regional and country head’s level so that partners can speak to them directly.
