Focusing 13th Five Year Plan, China Aims to Enhance Broadband

IDC’s Kitty Fok Comments on China government’s Support in IC industry.

To support local Integrated Circuit (IC) industry, China government has implemented strategies to improve broadband connectivity. ChinaThe Chinese government is in the process of preparing for the 13th Five Year Plan, and connectivity is the key. Broadband China Project aims to extend broadband coverage in the entire country.

There will be significant increase in wireless data usage and more than 1 billion smartphone users by the end of 2017. At the same time, the government is also working on a number of smart city projects and IoTs are going to be the focus.

State Council of the PRC released “National Outline for Promoting the Development of Integrated Circuit (IC) Industry” in February 2014. Chinese chip manufacturers are expected to increase their share in low-end smartphone market. Spreadtrum already recorded 23% share in low-end market in 1H 2014.

Kitty Fok, Managing Director of IDC China, has shared her comments on the China government strategies –

  1. The Chinese government is in the process of preparing for the 13th Five Year Plan, and connectivity is the key.
  2. Broadband China Project aims to extend broadband coverage in the entire country.
  3. There will be significant increase in wireless data usage and more than 1 billion smartphone users by the end of 2017. At the same time, the government is also working on a number of smart city projects and IoTs are going to be the focus.
  4. With the rapid increase in the amount of mobile users as well as network connectivity, it is challenging to maintain user experience. So it is very important for device manufacturers to focus on network optimization to ensure user experience. It also gives new opportunities for services providers to provide specified packages for premium users.
