Big Data and its rapid expansion in enterprise needs better, faster server power. That is why even though cloud is the buzzword, the demand for automation has been rising among both business and scientific environments. The future will see an even larger growth in physical server shipments, says
Sandeep Lodha, VP Sales & Marketing, Tyrone Systems.
- Big data is the most disruptive tool for business strategy today. How do you see the usage effect the IT landscape in terms of hardware requirements?
Big Data is no more just a buzzword, it is here to stay and grow. And it needs more than just commodity hardware. For instance, choosing the right server technology is critical. Servers that are built from the ground up with big data in mind are better equipped to handle complex analytics and cognitive computing workloads typically associated with Big Data applications.
- In your experience, which type cloud adoption is getting maximum traction? Public, private or hybrid? Why so?
There is no clear answer, as all of these offer their own distinct advantages. But adoption rates for public cloud have been phenomenal. As computing requirements grow exponentially by the day, cloud computing and especially public clouds are the right way to increase the dynamic pool of computing and storage.
- Do you see physical server storage market declining because of cloud adoption?
Well I see it the other way, even the cloud server and storage will require physical systems. The requirements are so huge that no one solution is fits all. There will be requirement for all kind of systems working for various solutions.
- How do you think virtualization is impacting the servers market?
Its ages since Virtualization arrived. Virtualization was the key to enhancing productivity and optimizing IT resource utilization. Earlier people used many small servers to run specific tasks but with virtualization they now prefer fewer but more powerful servers.
I recall a period when server shipments even dropped and revenues remained unchanged over consecutive quarters. Now, server shipment numbers and revenues both are on the upswing. As demand for automation rises amongst both business and scientific environments we will witness an even larger growth in physical server shipments.
- Could you tell us something about your DI solutions? What technologies go into them and how are they useful for enterprises?
Our DI or Digital Intermediate solutions are targeted towards the Media and Entertainment solutions. These systems are used to do various things like Color correction, compositing & rendering.
- In terms of a declining on premise storage market, where do you think alternative growth for servers will come from?
Today storage requirements are very vivid. No one solution fits all. Cloud based storage is just one of the solution available to customers. Some time when you require dedicated high throughput, SAN could be the solution. Likewise, there are specialized solutions each for VDI, Cloud, HPC environments. There are lot of unified storage solutions available that combine NAS and SAN in one box. Our Tyrone Opslag Fs2 for example gives NAS, SAN and VTL in one Box. Some others offer objected storage which is basically a HDD with a Ethernet port.
With the storage requirements growing all the time, every one of these solutions will have a market.
- You support HPC devices, how is the market in India? Is it still a niche area or you see increasing adoption?
HPC as a technology has a vast potential to grow. Anything which can be simulated will be done by using HPC. Use of HPC by Life sciences, Automobile, Aerospace, Oil and gas industries is well known but what is little known that nowadays business establishments are using HPC to design say a baby diaper or potato wafer.
India has always been known for its knowledge based industries. I think with HPC, India will further strength this image. We believe the market for HPC in India will improve significantly from where it is today. We ourselves have more than 400 installations in the country today.
- Where do you see expansion happening over 2015?
We are investing heavily in Big Data and hope to see even larger deployments in 2015. We are doing extremely well in HPC and will introduce some additional services and management middleware to offer better value to our customers. Our storage solutions are also doing extremely well and we plan to launch some new variants in 2015.
Beyond products we will be expanding our operations into newer geographies including the Middle East while strengthening our presence in ASEAN and India markets.
- What is your Go to Market strategy for these solutions?
Our business is entirely referral based. And then we spend a lot of time and effort in customer side education and solution seeding.
“Made in India”, all our state of art products/solutions have been very successful in bidding against much larger MNCs in both large public and private sector projects.
- How do you promote your products and solutions to different industry verticals?
Our approach is two pronged, we take keen interest in finding the challenges our customers in a particular segment are facing and then try and see how we can reduce the pain points and make solutions more affordable for them. We also work around the products and try and see which industry segment it can benefit.
