The new security paradigm- From technologies to platforms

Evidently, with these new technologies, security applications will no longer be merely point apps- with a single purpose. What will be needed to fight risks in such an inextricably enmeshed world, will be entire security platforms. The expectations from security organisations will not stop at application, or network or data…or even mobile. The security will now need to be holistic- especially since the connected environment will make the stakes of risk that much higher. The same infrastructure now needs to en geared up to meet risks across applications, with any entry point or breach. While in IT, human error also plays a huge part in leaving vulnerabilities, it will be innovations in technology applications that are driven by IoT. M2M and mobility – that will actually up the risk.

Going forward, that will be the trend- no more single apps. Instead of individual vendors for every application, the managed security on the cloud scenario, will put the onus of protection of the entre environment on a single platform vendor- and they will need to do a neat job of SLAs, with no compromises. Essentially what that means is more robust security platforms, more agile and pre-emptive, more insightful of risk, and able to use data analysis to predict vulnerability as well.

Application security control

Another focus area will be Application control to prevent essentially threats to their data and identity. These are critical to stay in business even for SMBs, and hence application security is a requirement that will never lose its significance in the enterprise space. Of course, given the current context, application security will need to be treated as a business network space, and even more importantly, across business processes within the organisation. No longer a standalone requirement, app security now needs to be a part of the process of business risk minimization, maximizing productivity and keeping the brand on the go. Then, of course, there are the various types of delivery models in the market that a company can use- and the security will need to cover all of these. These could be, at least for managed security service providers, a new business opportunity where revenues and service models can be increased, integrated or broken down into packages, as per customised requirements.

Truly, while the new technologies have slightly complicated the traditional concept of security, it has also opened up new opportunities that this connected world provides in terms of security requirements. Security could be a significant contributor to the industry under the new business paradigm, over the next 5 years.
