Hewlett Packard Enterprise has ambitious plans to secure the leadership position in the Smart City projects in India. The company plans to capture mindshare and grab opportunities in the central government’s $7.3 billion Smart City mission through its achievements in the Smart City space and its Customer Experience Center (CEC).
HPE recently launched its CEC in Gurugram to showcase and demonstrate IoT-based smart city solutions. Powered by Intel architecture, the CEC will enable partners and customers to experience cutting-edge solutions including eHealth center, public WiFi, city surveillance, solid waste management, and integrated command and control center (ICCC).
“The Intel-powered CEC will offer an opportunity to showcase our experience, best practices, the partner ecosystem and technology innovations to our customers. This initiative will help customers understand implementation cycle of the solutions, KPIs of the solutions and the reduced timeline of deployment,” explained Som Satsangi, Managing Director, India, HPE.
The company is also establishing a larger CEC in Bengaluru in 2018 targeted at large enterprises including manufacturing, BFSI, and telecom, with solutions around technologies like AI, machine learning, fleet management and shop floor automation.
Further, HPE has a couple of achievements to its credit in the Smart City space. It recently won a large contract from Bhopal Smart City Development Corporation to establish India’s first ICCC to run city command center operations across seven cities, including Bhopal, Gwalior, Indore, and Ujjain, in Madhya Pradesh.
“We will not only deliver the ICCC within the next 12 months but also manage and operate it for the next five years to enable a seamless experience. We have taken this opportunity to establish that we are ahead of the curve and to prove the capability of our Pointnext Services to deliver these kinds of complex solutions with high levels of interoperability,” shared Satsangi.
The ICCC is based on the HPE Universal IoT Platform to enable government or city administration to remotely manage and control various IoT services via a single platform.
Satsangi disclosed that currently, all smart cities are undergoing WiFi enablement. “With our Aruba intelligent edge solutions, we are positioned as #1 player with the largest implementation of our HP Aruba technology in the backend.”
In addition, the company has established 150 eHealth centers, which offer healthcare services in remote areas through specialty hospitals, across the country. HPE has also implemented street light management in Ponnur town in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh.
In fact, the company is working on its three-pronged strategy: to make hybrid cloud and data centers simple by delivering seamless experience from on-premise to cloud. In addition, the company is empowering the edge through its Edgeline servers. And, it is delivering seamless connectivity between the edge and the data center through its Pointnext Services.
HPE expects its channel partners, including tier-2 channel, to benefit from its initiatives in smart city projects. “While only tier-1 SIs will be able to bid for the contracts due to sheer size and nature of the projects, tier-2 partners will benefit as large portion of the implementation will be outsourced to smaller players,” elaborated Satsangi.
