Does Your Antivirus Provide All-Inclusive Protection?

There are so many options on the market for an antivirus or security solution that you may not know which to choose. A good security product is not just about the antivirus protection but also about firewall protection, protection against cybercrime when browsing the internet, protection against ransomware, VPN protection against third-party monitoring and censorship, and so on. When you look for your next security solution, you should check whether it offers all-inclusive protection, in short protection against the following types of threats:

Financial-Cybercrime-Victims

Viruses – These are programs with malicious intents which can multiply themselves and thus infect other computers or devices. Viruses are usually tied to an executable file which triggers when you unknowingly run it.

Trojans (Horses) – These are malicious software that often masquerades themselves as common software and can hence trick you into downloading and running them on your computer. Once run, they usually open the gate to other forms of malware on your computer.

Worms – These are malicious programs that thrive on the security holes and vulnerabilities in your operating system or other software and use them to infect your computer. Worms can multiply and spread by themselves unlike regular viruses, without you having to run an infected file.

Spyware – They are designed to spy and gather intelligence about you. Spyware are software programs that tries to hide from you, operating system and your security solution. After it collects information about you, it tries to send it to hacker-controlled servers.

Rootkits – Rootkits are malware designed to give hackers remote access and control of a device, without being detected by the victims or the security software installed on the infected devices. A hacker can use a rootkit infected device to remotely access, copy and execute the files on it, change operating system settings, install additional software (other types of malware) and so on. They are somewhat harder to detect and remove from an infected machine.

Ransomware – These are malicious programs that take control and encrypt your files once they infect your computer. In order to get your files back, it tries to make you pay considerable amounts of money to their creators.

Adware – Adware is software program that display advertisements on your system (screen, web browsers etc.). Not exactly malware by conventional standards, adware still hurts your computer’s performance and your user experience, and can also help infect your computer with malware.

Network attacks – A network attack is when hackers try to take control of your devices remotely through a “break” approach and this is precisely when you need a firewall to stop it. A good firewall should not only deflect attacks from the outside but also tell you about suspicious traffic that is initiated from your computer to the outside world.

Web threats – In the line of defence against malware, your web browser should be the first to step in. A good security solution should include a web protection module that can stop you from visiting websites with malicious content.
