Mediatek Retains Top Spot in Global Application Processor Market

Taiwanese chipmaker Mediatek kept its number one position in the global application processor market for Q2 2021. The company retained its position with a sizeable 38 percent market share beating Qualcomm, according to a recent research report.

According to Counterpoint, Mediatek continues to lead the global AP market with its Dimensity 700 series dominating the 5g market and the Helio P35 and Helio G80 popular in the 4G LTE segment.

Mediatek took the lead from Qualcomm in Q3 2020 with 31 percent share and since then managed to maintain its prominence with market shares of 32 percent and 35 percent in the subsequent quarters.

Qualcomm commanded 32 percent market share with its popularity in the high-end 5g market. Further, Apple managed to capture the third spot with 15 percent market share with strong demand for its iPhone 12 and continued sales momentum. Samsung and UNISOC took the fourth and fifth spot with a 7 percent and 5 percent market share, respectively.
