Verizon has announced the appointment of Sowmyanarayan Sampath to Executive Vice President and CEO of Verizon Business, effective July 1, 2022. He will take over for Tami Erwin, who will serve as Strategic Advisor to the CEO until the end of 2022. Sampath will report directly to Verizon Chairman and CEO Hans Vestberg.
Sampath joined Verizon in 2014 and currently serves as Chief Revenue Officer. He has been a key driving factor behind the organization’s financial performance, shared success culture, and ongoing focus on client expectations.
Sampath has held a lot of significant positions at Verizon throughout the years. He joined Verizon as SVP of Business Transformation, where he overhauled the company’s operating paradigm and launched two of its most important initiatives, Network Transformation and OneFiber. He managed collaborative projects spanning networks, IoT, next-generation video, and established the 5G product portfolio as Chief Product Officer for the Consumer and Enterprise divisions. Sampath subsequently served as Verizon Media Group’s Chief Financial Officer, focusing on Strategy and Transformation, before becoming President of Global Enterprise, where he oversaw the commercialization of Verizon’s 5G networks and multi-access edge computing (MEC) solutions.
Sampath brings more than two decades of experience in digital transformation and critical network infrastructure on behalf of corporate clients to his new role at Verizon, plus extensive knowledge of products and their role in powering enterprise growth and global security.
Sampath takes over for Tami Erwin, who has been the CEO of Verizon Business since 2019. During her tenure, Erwin established Verizon Business as the go-to partner for clients’ digital transformation initiatives. Prior to her present position, she was an integral part of Verizon’s wireline and wireless business divisions’ expansion and success. She formerly headed Verizon Wireless’ operations and Verizon Fios, one of the nation’s biggest residential and commercial fiber networks. Earlier in her career, she was Chief Marketing Officer of Verizon Wireless and led the business’ west region, taking it from fourth place to first place.
