Focally Introduces World’s First Full-Colour Micro-Led Based True AR Glasses

USound has announced the cooperation with the Indian company Focally on the first generation of their Universe AR Glasses.

Focally’s Universe AR glasses prototype was created to investigate next-generation assistive AR applications such as AR navigation, geo-location-based applications, streaming videos and audio, geo-location-based gaming, AI applications, and more. These smart glasses prototypes demonstrate the critical elements required for AR wearable devices, such as optical architecture, a powerful sound system, and real-time sensing capabilities, all integrated into an ergonomic and compact eyewear device.

The world’s smallest and brightest micro-Led full-color display engine is combined with a fully transparent see-through waveguide with a 30-degree FOV in this first generation. The glasses feature USound’s patented two-way audio system, MEMS tweeter and electrodynamic woofers, and dual microphones for noise cancellation and spatial audio.

This version of the device features a unique compute architecture that performs on-board real-time sensing from sensors such as accelerometers, gyroscopes, magnetometers, environmental, gas composition, and IR, and then wirelessly performs application specific compute on other powerful computer platforms such as smartphones to reduce power consumption.

Focally is already working on a second-generation prototype with vision and advanced compute capabilities. Later in 2023, an optimised computer platform will be made available to developers and early enthusiasts.

USound’s advanced MEMS-speaker-based sound solution enables unprecedented industrial and product design possibilities for addressing the challenges of many modern audio devices. USound MEMS loudspeakers require up to 50 percent less space, consume 80 percent less energy, and offer a greater frequency range per unit of area than rival speakers used in earphones, TWS, headphones, smartphones, VR/AR glasses, wearables, and hearing aids.

Focally is one of several companies that will benefit from USound MEMS-based audio solutions as they launch wearables and hearables products in 2022 and 2023.
