Microsoft India Announces Elevations in the Leadership Team

Microsoft India has undergone a significant reshuffling of its top executives, with several key individuals receiving promotions. Irina Ghose, previously the Chief Operating Officer (COO), has been promoted to the position of Managing Director for India. The current Managing Director, Sashi Sreedharan, has been given a larger role within the organization. Additionally, Navtez Bal, former Executive Director of the public sector, will now assume the COO position, while Venkat Krishnan, who was in charge of partnerships, will take over Bal’s previous role.

These promotions, which took effect on July 1, coincide with the start of Microsoft’s financial year. While the company confirmed the executive changes, there has been speculation that Puneet Chandok, the former head of Amazon Web Services (AWS) India, may be joining Microsoft, although no official statement has been released regarding this.

India’s cloud market is highly competitive, with Microsoft facing strong competition from AWS and Google Cloud. However, the country presents significant growth opportunities for these tech giants, as more small and medium businesses increase their cloud and digital investments, particularly since the onset of the pandemic.

Anant Maheshwari, President of Microsoft India, has emphasized the company’s focus on expanding its presence in India. He highlighted the potential in sectors such as banking and financial services, as well as emerging companies, where Microsoft’s products are gaining traction. Maheshwari also mentioned the integration of generative AI solutions, like ChatGPT, for clients in India, with applications across various industries, including banking, financial services, and healthcare.
