L&T Technology Services Ties up with AWS to Drive Smart Vehicles with Generative AI

L&T Technology Services (LTTS) has announced its collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to expedite the transition towards Software Defined Vehicles (SDVs) for global automotive manufacturers, utilizing generative artificial intelligence (AI).

SDVs rely heavily on software, employing sensors and computer systems to enhance driving safety and efficiency. With over-the-air (OTA) software updates from the cloud, they offer improved safety, security, entertainment, and convenience post-purchase. LTTS, leveraging AWS, is enabling vehicle manufacturers globally to accelerate the development of next-gen SDVs with a focus on safety and security solutions, covering digital cockpits, connected services, and autonomous driving. LTTS has streamlined product development timelines by 25% through virtual workbenches on AWS, facilitating the development and testing of software for vehicle electronic control units (ECUs).

To accelerate SDV development, LTTS utilizes Amazon CodeWhisperer as the preferred development environment. This AI-powered tool offers real-time code recommendations, enabling engineers to swiftly develop intelligent applications for improved vehicle performance. These applications encompass driver warnings, automated braking, and steering functions, offering stakeholders access to vehicle data through large language models built on AWS.

LTTS also employs Amazon Bedrock, a fully managed service for accessing foundation models, to implement cloud-based vehicle test automation and reuse proven safety compliance code, further reducing software development time. AWS IoT FleetWise enhances vehicle quality, safety, and autonomy by facilitating the collection, transformation, and near real-time transfer of vehicle data to the cloud.

To equip their employees with the digital skills needed for innovation, LTTS initiated a comprehensive training program with AWS. The Global Engineering Academy aims to provide continuous skilling for its staff. By March 2024, the academy plans to train 1,000 engineers globally in vital cloud skills, including Amazon CodeWhisperer, to accelerate SDV software development.

Alind Saxena, President, Sales, and Whole Time Director at LTTS, emphasized, “Generative AI is ushering in a new era of possibilities for the automotive industry, and with AWS cloud services, we are able to innovate rapidly to help our customers improve mobility. To fuel this transformation, we’re committed to training 1,000 engineers on generative AI with AWS by March 2024, ensuring that the future of mobility is shaped by the brightest minds and the most cutting-edge technology.”

Vaishali Kasture, Director (Commercial Sales) of AWS India and South Asia at Amazon Web Services India, noted, “As India’s automotive sector races towards modernization, cloud technologies, including artificial intelligence, are the engine propelling a future of smart, connected vehicles. Together, we’re not just building cars – we’re building experiences, driving efficiency, and creating a smarter tomorrow.”
