GSMA and IBM are joining forces to introduce an artificial intelligence (AI) training initiative, the GSMA Foundry Generative AI program. This collaboration aims to empower telecom industry leaders with AI skills and address skill gaps. The program utilizes IBM’s watsonx platform to facilitate exploration of industry-specific Generative AI applications, enhancing “cost leadership, revenue growth, and customer experience.” GSMA Advance AI Training sessions, scheduled in global locations including Dubai, London, Mexico, New York, and Seoul, will cover fundamental AI principles and specialized Gen AI applications. The GSMA Foundry Generative AI program offers GSMA members access to watsonx for exploring use cases and improving efficiency. The collaboration will also drive Gen AI industry programs and challenges, focusing on telecom provider functional areas. Research indicates significant interest in generative AI within the telecom sector, with 40% exploring or experimenting, and 45% accelerating AI rollout. GSMA emphasizes the transformative potential of Generative AI in customer care, IT, and network optimization, areas where automation enhances agility and efficiency. Alex Sinclair, CTO at GSMA, highlights AI’s vast potential for launching new services and improving connectivity. IBM, as a global AI leader, commits to supporting telecom industry training, with Stephen Rose, GM of Global Industries at IBM, emphasizing Generative AI’s potential to optimize processes within the industry through watsonx.
