Tata Steel recently hosted the inaugural edition of ‘Ignitia,’ a startup night event, to commemorate the accomplishments of its renowned startup engagement initiative, ‘Innoventure.’ This event, held in Jamshedpur on February 16, witnessed the participation of over 300 individuals, including founders from more than 20 startups and senior leadership from Tata Steel. During the event, Tata Steel recognized exceptional projects carried out by startups and various business units of the company that have actively supported and promoted startup engagement. ‘Ignitia’ was a platform for insightful discussions, fruitful exchanges, and jubilant celebrations.
Now in its fifth year, Innoventure serves as Tata Steel’s flagship startup engagement program, facilitating collaborations with startups and external partners to address challenges across the steel value chain and other designated interest areas through technological innovations. The program focuses on key areas such as decarbonization, mining, surface engineering, advanced materials, operational excellence, waste energy recovery and water treatment, safety, and sustainability. Leveraging a robust global network of partners including venture capital firms, academia, government organizations, and market intelligence platforms, Innoventure identifies and scouts relevant startups.
Dr. Debashish Bhattacharjee, Vice President of Technology and R&D at Tata Steel, highlighted the achievements of the Innoventure ecosystem, emphasizing the successful implementation of solutions provided by startups. These solutions span various domains including carbon capture, waste heat utilization, robotics for defect detection, and underwater drones. Bhattacharjee expressed optimism about expanding the scope of startup collaboration in the future.
Over the past four years, the Innoventure ecosystem has delivered technological solutions ranging from surveying water bodies to smart sensor solutions for IIoT, intelligent surveillance systems for anomaly detection, and groundbreaking technologies for sustainable resource management with zero-waste technology.
