Gartner has disclosed its top eight cybersecurity predictions for 2024 and beyond. Among these forecasts, the adoption of generative AI (GenAI) is expected to bridge the cybersecurity skills gap and reduce human-driven cybersecurity incidents significantly. Additionally, it is predicted that a majority of top global organizations will extend directors and officers insurance to cybersecurity leaders to mitigate personal legal exposure while combating malformation is projected to incur costs exceeding $500 billion for enterprises.
Deepti Gopal, Director Analyst at Gartner, emphasized the increasing attention on the human element in cybersecurity predictions. Recommendations include leveraging GenAI to enhance cybersecurity skills and behaviors, combining GenAI with integrated platforms for more effective security behavior and culture programs, and excluding unmanaged systems from zero-trust strategies.
Furthermore, it is anticipated that cybersecurity leaders will be covered by directors and officers insurance due to personal legal exposure, and enterprise spending on battling malformation will surpass $500 billion, affecting marketing and cybersecurity budgets. IAM leaders are expected to play a more prominent role in detecting and responding to IAM-related breaches, and organizations will combine data loss prevention and insider risk management disciplines with IAM context for improved suspicious behavior detection.
Lastly, application security is predicted to be redesigned for consumption by non-cyber experts, owned by application owners, to address the growing volume and variety of applications created by business technologists and distributed delivery teams.
