Kaspersky Reports Persistence of Local Threats Targeting Indian Businesses

According to Kaspersky, in 2023, there were over 17 million local threats directed at organizations in India. This data, sourced from the cybersecurity firm’s latest findings, underscores the ongoing cybersecurity challenges faced by businesses in the country.

Kaspersky’s business solutions successfully thwarted a total of 17,500,000 local infections throughout the year, spanning from January to December.

Local infections, which encompass threats introduced through file infections, removable media, or concealed forms initially, serve as a critical metric in understanding the overall cyber threat landscape. Kaspersky’s statistics are generated through scans conducted on files during their creation or access on hard drives, as well as scans on removable storage media.

Despite a global uptick in threats across both individual and corporate sectors, India saw a marginal decrease in locally detected threats on corporate devices secured by Kaspersky’s business solutions.

Adrian Hia, Managing Director for Asia Pacific at Kaspersky, attributes this trend to India’s rapid digitalization, which exposes organizations to a wider range of potential cyberattacks, particularly in sectors like manufacturing, finance, media, retail, and e-commerce. He emphasizes the importance of adopting comprehensive cybersecurity measures and a Cyber Immunity strategy to combat evolving and sophisticated threats effectively.

Effective defense against local attacks necessitates not only a capable security solution for treating infected objects but also robust features such as a firewall, anti-rootkit functionality, and control over removable devices.

Organizations can mitigate malware spread via files or removable media by employing robust security solutions like Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Business, which facilitates scanning of connected removable drives for malware.

Additionally, Kaspersky offers an integrated software solution, the Kaspersky Unified Monitoring and Analysis Platform (KUMA), which serves as a unified console for monitoring and analyzing information security incidents, functioning both as a log management system and a full-fledged SIEM system.
