Adobe Delves into OpenAI Collaboration While Introducing AI Video Tools

Adobe is considering a collaboration with OpenAI as it enhances its video editing software with AI capabilities. The company plans to integrate third-party AI tools like Sora from OpenAI into Premiere Pro, introducing features such as scene object generation and distraction removal using the Firefly AI model. Adobe aims to address market concerns by sharing revenue with third-party developers and highlighting its commitment to leading AI ethics standards.

Adobe, known for its widely used Premiere Pro application in the television and film industries, is set to incorporate AI-based features this year. These features will enable users to seamlessly fill in scenes with AI-generated objects and remove distractions without manual intervention. Key to these advancements is the Firefly AI model, previously deployed in Adobe’s Photoshop software for still image editing. To differentiate itself from competitors like OpenAI, Adobe emphasizes its ownership of the Firefly system’s training data and offers users protection against copyright claims.

Additionally, Adobe plans to enable users to leverage third-party AI tools from OpenAI, Runway, and Pika Labs directly within Premiere Pro. This move is seen as a response to investor concerns about the potential risks AI technologies pose to Adobe’s core business. While OpenAI has showcased its Sora model’s ability to generate realistic videos based on text prompts, Adobe has yet to announce a timeline for integrating this technology into Premiere Pro.

Deepa Subramaniam, Adobe’s vice president of product marketing for creative professional apps, stated that revenue sharing details with outside developers are still under consideration. However, Adobe commits to transparently indicating when non-proprietary AI models are being used and ensuring clear attribution of AI technologies in produced videos. Subramaniam reaffirms Adobe’s dedication to industry-leading AI ethics standards and expresses excitement about expanding user choice through third-party AI models.
