C-DOT and IIT-Jodhpur Forge 5G Collaboration, Developing AI-Based Systems

C-DOT, the leading telecom R&D Center under the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) of the Indian government, has partnered with the Indian Institute of Technology, Jodhpur (IIT-J) to develop AI-based systems for 5G network management. This collaboration, facilitated under the Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF) of the DoT, aims to support domestic companies and institutions in designing, developing, and commercializing telecommunication products and solutions for affordable broadband and mobile services, particularly in rural and remote areas.

The primary goal of the partnership is to create AI frameworks for automated network management, fault detection, and diagnostic techniques using the vast data generated within 5G networks. The initiative will establish a real-time testbed for 5G and beyond networks (in compliance with O-RAN standards) to demonstrate automated network management and slicing techniques, focusing on specific applications like smart metering and remotely operated vehicles.

During the agreement signing ceremony attended by Dr. Pankaj Kumar Dalela, Director of C-DOT, and Dr. Sai Kiran, MPR, Assistant Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Jodhpur, Dr. Sai Kiran expressed excitement about the R&D grant from the DoT, which will fuel advanced research initiatives to revolutionize network management and enhance Quality of Service (QoS) in 5G and 6G telecom networks. Leveraging state-of-the-art AI technologies, the project aims to develop automated network management solutions ensuring low-latency and high-reliability performance, facilitating the growth of new application verticals such as smart cities and remotely operated vehicles.

Both C-DOT and IIT-Jodhpur emphasized that the successful completion of the project would enable new use-cases in transportation systems and smart cities, positioning India for significant contributions to future 6G telecom standards.
