Four Indian organizations have been selected for grants from the APAC Sustainability Seed Fund 2.0, supported by a $5 million donation from Google.org. This initiative, overseen by the Asian Venture Philanthropy Network (AVPN), seeks to support AI and technology-based solutions for pressing environmental and social issues.
The Indian grantees are INREM Foundation, CEPT Research and Development Foundation (CRDF), Institute for Financial Management and Research (WELL Labs), and Gujarat Mahila Housing Sewa Trust (MHT).
– INREM Foundation will develop AI-driven digital tools to provide community access to water contamination data.
– CRDF will use machine learning and satellite imagery to safeguard lakes and their carbon sink capabilities.
– WELL Labs aims to create advanced models to enhance village-level water security.
– MHT plans to build an AI model to detect urban heat islands and propose community-based solutions.
This new funding initiative follows Google.org’s earlier $3 million grant to the first APAC Sustainability Seed Fund, which helped save over 13 million tonnes of water and reduce 3,700 tonnes of carbon emissions in India’s agriculture sector.
