Spectrum Instrumentation Launches 96xx Series DDS Generators with Up to 50 Tones per Channel

Spectrum Instrumentation has introduced the 96xx series of Direct Digital Synthesis (DDS) generators, creating a new category in its product lineup. These innovative generators enable engineers and scientists to generate and independently control multi-tone sine signals with up to 50 carriers on a single output channel. They deliver high-purity signals across a broad frequency range, reaching up to 200 MHz, making them well-suited for demanding applications in biomedicine, communications, semiconductors, and quantum science.

The 96xx series includes 12 models available in three formats: PCIe cards, PXIe modules, and Ethernet instruments. Each PCIe or PXIe card can produce up to 50 low-phase-noise tones, with options for up to 4 channels. The stand-alone Ethernet instruments come with 2 to 24 channels, while larger NETBOX units can support up to 300 tones. Users can also link multiple cards via a Star Hub synchronization module to create systems with up to 400 tones, all featuring integrated output amplifiers with programmable signal amplitudes.

Rapid Parameter Adjustments

These DDS generators stand out due to their speed in changing tone characteristics. Fully programmable, they allow nearly instantaneous adjustments to frequency, amplitude, and phase, as well as slope settings. With the capacity to store millions of DDS commands in onboard memory, they offer command timing resolution as precise as 6.4 nanoseconds, eliminating transition jitter and glitches.

Diverse Applications

The 96xx series enables users to easily generate waveform trains, frequency sweeps, and finely-tuned frequency references. Applications include industrial and medical systems, network analysis, and communication technologies, particularly in advanced laser control for quantum experiments. Users can issue simple commands for rapid laser control, providing a more efficient alternative to traditional Arbitrary Waveform Generators (AWGs).

Easy System Integration

Compatible with both Windows and Linux, the 96xx series can be programmed using a variety of languages, including C++, Python, and LabVIEW, along with a user-friendly high-level Python API.

Dual Functionality as an AWG

Additionally, the 96xx series can be transformed into a fully functional AWG via a firmware upgrade, allowing synchronous playback of arbitrary waveforms across all active channels, with support for multiple operating modes.

Availability

The 96xx series DDS generators are now available, backed by a 5-year warranty, free software and firmware updates, and dedicated customer support from the engineering team.
