Akamai Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKAM), a leading cloud company, has launched the Behavioral DDoS Engine for its App & API Protector solution. This new feature utilizes machine learning and global intelligence to improve detection and mitigation of application-layer DDoS attacks.
The Behavioral DDoS Engine provides advanced protection by analyzing traffic anomalies and correlating multidimensional data, ensuring strong defense against sophisticated and evolving DDoS threats. It delivers automatic, hands-off protection tailored to each customer’s unique traffic patterns and risk profiles. Machine learning optimizes detection accuracy, reducing false positives, and global intelligence from Akamai ensures automatic updates for modernized security. The system combines expert-verified insights to maintain reliable protection across diverse digital environments.
Initially, the Behavioral DDoS Engine will be available to select customers, with a full platform-wide release expected in 2025.
Akamai also introduced a new AI Assistant integrated into its web security analytics. This feature allows users to easily filter and query security data, such as attack types, IPs, and threat scores, through an intuitive chat interface. By leveraging AI, the tool enhances data exploration, providing faster access to insights and improving investigation efficiency.

Further updates to Akamai’s solution include new Rapid Rules for fast protection against CVEs and zero-day vulnerabilities, an enhanced Adaptive Security Engine with improved machine learning models, and Aggregated Rate Limit Controls to detect advanced DDoS techniques.
