Akamai Introduces New Products to Power & Protect Life Online

Akamai Technologies has launched a number of new products as well as upgrades to existing ones in its security and computing product lines. Akamai’s debut into the infrastructure as a service (IaaS) market with the introduction of Linode Managed Database, the launch of Audience Hijacking Protector, and a slew of additional new capabilities for developers and cybersecurity experts are among the announcements.

Further detail will be published throughout the week on each key product update, and links are provided in the summaries below.

Linode Managed Database

Linode Managed Database streamlines database deployment by assisting developers in reducing risk, increasing productivity, and reducing the complexity associated with manual management of production database clusters.

Linode users have most frequently requested managed databases. Following its purchase of Linode in March of this year, Akamai’s first product launch in its compute line of business is the Linode Managed Database service, confirming its mission to establish the world’s most powerful and distributed computing platform from the cloud to edge.

At launch, Akamai will offer Linode Managed Database for MySQL in all of Linode’s 11 global data centers, with support for PostgreSQL, Redis, and MongoDB to follow in the second quarter of 2022. With each supported managed database, customers can take advantage of features such as flat-rate pricing, security and recovery measures, flexible deployment options, and high availability cluster options.

Audience Hijacking Protector and other security features
Audience Hijacking Protector is a new solution for online businesses that aims to optimize income potential while minimizing marketing fraud during the purchase cycle. As the speed of online retail picks up, security teams for online firms are confronted with a new broad, customer-side phenomena. Retailers are dealing with a rising problem known as audience hijacking, in which unapproved adverts and pop ups entice customers away from online sites, interrupting user experiences and resulting in lost revenue.
Akamai also announced numerous new application security capabilities aimed at assisting enterprises in protecting their consumers from attacks across all online contexts, including internet browsers, mobile applications, API interactions, and at the edge.

Workflow improvements for developers with EdgeWorkers

With increasing processing workloads shifting to the edge, Akamai is announcing various enhancements to its EdgeWorkers offering, which allows development teams to use the Akamai network to create microservices and access secure and fast-acting compute at the edge.

Through additional integrations, increased resource tier limitations, and support for customers utilizing Standard TLS, Akamai is making it easier for developers to write, execute, and debug EdgeWorkers functions. Anyone interested in experiencing EdgeWorkers can now use the new Hello Akamai! prototype sandbox environment.
