E-Commerce Employs 78% of Frontline Workers in Delhi NCR: BetterPlace Study

Delhi NCR has witnessed the highest distribution of frontline workers in the E-Commerce, Logistics, and Mobility sectors, according to research from BetterPlace.

The largest portion of the frontline personnel is contributed by e-commerce, followed by logistics and mobility, with Delhi NCR serving as the center for D2C companies.

  • E-commerce accounted for 78 percent of all frontline jobs in Delhi NCR, followed by Logistics and Mobility (14.92 percent).
  • Small and medium-sized enterprises experienced an improvement in customer perception during the epidemic, and they recently made the switch to an online strategy. Frontline employees’ employment increased significantly as a result.
  • E-commerce, logistics, and mobility all grew at the same time as they cooperated to meet rising demand and consumerism.

The gender gap among front-line employees in Delhi NCR is growing as a result of the significant contribution made by workers in e-commerce, logistics, and mobility.

  • Women’s participation in the frontline workforce decreased by 33 percent, accounting for only 2 percent of the workforce as a whole, compared to 98 percent of men who make up the same workforce.
  • This is due to the fact that e-commerce, logistics, and mobility offer careers that are not adaptable enough for women to pursue.

Youth employment in Delhi NCR is higher than that of all other age groups combined.

  • Frontline employees between the ages of 20 and 30 make up 60 percent of the overall workforce in Delhi NCR, which is more than they do in all other age groups combined.
  • Cohorts over the age of 40 have a dramatic reduction in frontline workforce involvement, which falls by 67 percent for the 40–50 age group and 92 percent for the 50–60 age group when compared to the 30–40 age group.

The frontline staff supply-demand imbalance in Delhi NCR is among the lowest.

  • With an average supply-to-demand gap of just 0.25 percent in FY22, Delhi NCR has one of the lowest gaps for frontline labor. This indicates that there are always 0.25 percent more workers in Delhi NCR than what the sector requires, which is a good balance.
  • Only the first and third quarters of FY 22 had a deficit in Delhi NCR, with the demand increasing by 1 percent and 2 percent, respectively, over the supply.
