Microsoft Appoints Puneet Chandok as Corporate Vice President for India and South Asia

Microsoft has appointed Puneet Chandok as the Corporate Vice President of Microsoft India and South Asia, effective from September 1, 2023. He will be taking over the operational responsibilities from Anant Maheshwari.

With a strong leadership team supporting him, Puneet will lead the integration of Microsoft’s businesses across South Asia, including Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. His focus will be on strengthening the company’s presence in the region while prioritizing key industries through a customer-centric approach with a focus on generative AI.

Ahmed Mazhari, President of Microsoft Asia, expressed his delight at Puneet’s appointment, citing his track record of building and growing technology businesses and leveraging technology to drive impact and change. He emphasized that Puneet’s leadership will play a vital role in ensuring Microsoft’s continued success in South Asia.

Puneet Chandok expressed his excitement about joining Microsoft India and its mission to empower every person and organization to achieve more. He sees the mission as highly relevant in India’s expanding digital landscape and is eager to work with the One Microsoft team to make this vision a reality.

Anant Maheshwari, the outgoing Corporate Vice President, praised Microsoft India’s remarkable growth over the last seven years and expressed gratitude to the talented team and leaders who contributed to this momentum.

Puneet’s appointment aligns with Microsoft’s continued market expansion as a cloud technology and digital innovation leader. With a vast partner ecosystem, including a network of 17,000 partners in India generating high cloud revenue, and investments in local infrastructure, such as the planned data center in Hyderabad, Microsoft aims to power India’s economic progress and inclusive growth agenda.

Puneet Chandok comes to Microsoft from AWS, where he led the company’s India and South Asia business, working closely with enterprises, startups, and SMBs to drive agility and innovation. He brings a wealth of experience from previous roles at McKinsey and IBM. Puneet holds an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta, a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, and Diplomas in Computer Programming, Networking, and High-level Computer Systems. His appointment comes at a significant time for Microsoft as they continue to grow and innovate in the dynamic Indian market.
