VMware Unveils Private AI Solutions to Drive Enterprise AI Adoption

VMware has introduced a series of Private AI offerings aimed at propelling the adoption of generative artificial intelligence (AI) within enterprises and capitalizing on the value of secure data. The concept of Private AI focuses on balancing AI benefits with privacy and compliance requirements, delivering the best of both worlds.

In a move to realize this vision and enable the next phase of AI-enabled applications, VMware has announced two pivotal initiatives:

VMware Private AI Foundation with NVIDIA: This extension of the strategic partnership between VMware and NVIDIA equips enterprises with a comprehensive set of AI tools. The collaborative effort enables companies to implement proven AI models using their private data, effectively deploying them across data centers, major public clouds, and edge locations. Integrating VMware’s Private AI architecture, built on VMware Cloud Foundation, with NVIDIA AI Enterprise software and accelerated computing, this offering facilitates customization and deployment of generative AI applications such as intelligent chatbots, search engines, and summarization tools. The joint initiative is also supported by technology leaders like Dell Technologies, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, and Lenovo.

VMware Private AI Reference Architecture for Open Source: This approach leverages top-tier open-source software (OSS) technologies to create a comprehensive reference architecture for building and serving OSS models on VMware Cloud Foundation. VMware is collaborating with key players across the AI landscape to achieve this, including Anyscale, Domino Data Lab, global systems integrators like Wipro and HCL, Hugging Face, and Intel. VMware is also launching the VMware AI Ready program, set to go live by the end of 2023, which aims to connect independent software vendors (ISVs) with the tools and resources needed to validate and certify their products on the VMware Private AI Reference Architecture.

VMware’s Private AI strategy encompasses making AI models and computing capacity accessible where enterprise data originates, processes, and is consumed—whether it’s in the public cloud, enterprise data centers, or at the edge. The approach capitalizes on multi-cloud environments, as they provide the foundation for private yet widely distributed data utilization. By providing flexibility and control, VMware enables the creation of a new generation of AI-enabled applications, contributing to enhanced productivity and significant business transformation.

Raghu Raghuram, CEO, VMware, highlighted the significance of maintaining data privacy while harnessing AI’s potential. He stressed that VMware Private AI empowers organizations to build and operate AI models securely and efficiently across multi-cloud environments.

The impact of VMware’s Private AI initiatives is substantial. With generative AI holding the potential to add trillions to the global economy, the collaboration between VMware and industry leaders like NVIDIA is set to drive innovation, facilitate business growth, and ensure data privacy.

Chris Wolf, Vice President, VMware AI Labs, emphasized the democratization of AI with this initiative. VMware Private AI intends to make AI accessible not just to data scientists but to every enterprise user, fostering innovation across various business functions.

VMware’s holistic approach, combining Private AI offerings, multi-cloud strategies, and collaborations with top industry players, showcases the commitment to revolutionizing how AI is harnessed and applied across enterprises. Through these endeavors, VMware is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the AI landscape, ensuring that innovation and privacy go hand in hand.
