Google Introduces Arm-Based Chip to Compete with Rivals

Google has introduced a new Arm-based chip to rival competitors like Microsoft and Amazon, as announced by Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian at the annual Google Cloud Next 2024 event in Las Vegas. The Axion Processor, Google’s first custom Arm-based central processing unit (CPU) designed for data centers, promises enhanced performance and energy efficiency compared to current x86-based instances. This chip is already in use for various Google services such as YouTube ads and the Google Earth Engine. In addition to this launch, Google also unveiled other updates, including competitive pricing for Google Workspace, AI language model Gemini 1.5 Pro, Gemini Code Assist for developers, and expanded cybersecurity capabilities with Gemini in Threat Intelligence.
